We recently accomplished an important step in my son’s maturation into manhood. We completed watching all five original Planet of the Apes movies. I am so proud.
What a blessing it is for your son to have a father who enjoys sharing things with him. He may realize this already, but even if he does not he will someday.
Thanks Mike – it is a blessing that works both ways for sure.
As far as rankings: 1. Planet of the Apes – Of course the original is easily first place. 2. Escape From the Planet of the Apes – I think this has the most compelling and succinct story of the sequels. It also has a broad appeal – my daughter enjoyed it… 3. Beneath the Planet of the Apes – This doesn’t hold up nearly as well from an adult’s perspective. But it holds a soft spot in my heart because I loved it so much as a kid. 4. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes – this is kind of the opposite as Beneath. I didn’t like it as much as a child, but after watching it as an adult I have a new appreciation for it. What a bizarre “Orwellian” world it portrays. I watched the unedited/original version with Palmer that didn’t make it to the theaters and it is disturbing…but cool. 5. Battle for the Planet of the Apes – this thing never really resonated with me. Something seems missing…
